Hiring noise is bad now, but AI is turning this up to eleven. Those easily weeded, typo-ridden resumes won’t exist in a few months. What will we do with two thousand “perfect” CVs?
But those were always parlor tricks.
Brute force keyword match didn’t serve our candidates either; it merely eliminated those not imagined by the ad writer. In our bones we regret how many great candidates were never even considered. “Alas, it is the only efficient way,” we say.
Async assessments? Async interviews? Abandon all hope, ye who enter with ChatGPT hidden up everyone’s sleeve. Unless, of course, you can find a clever, scalable workaround.¹
CVs alone can’t capture the essence of how people tick. Only a discerning interview can flesh this out. But how to use that precious time most wisely? Skills, of course, are table stakes, but it’s the cultural alignment that really makes our teams sing.
